![]() The largest share of this criticism seems to be aimed at the main three characters, but the very specific targets, more than any other characters, seem to be Eren and Mikasa. Being traumatized and grieving should not just be waved off as a simple “deal with it for humanity” and Eren and Mikasa shouldn’t be seen as “dumb whiners” when they want their friend to be well.Īttack On Titan Shingeki no Kyojin AoT 83 SnK 83 Chapter 83 Eren Mikasa Eren Jaeger Eren Yeager Mikasa Ackerman AoT SnK Witchandhuntress Asksġ) The most common criticism without a doubt I came across for this section of the story is that the characters are underdeveloped. I don’t want it to contradict the series’ central statements and I don’t want it to come off as mean-spirited because Eren and Mikasa aren’t angry and sad for no reason. It’s not so much the situation itself, but *how* the situation is resolved to me, the connotations and execution behind it. There’s a delicate balance for the series to keep if it doesn’t want to come off as mean-spirited. I don’t know if that’s the best example, but something like this. There is a flipside to this - accepting the world is not always fair is not the same as telling you to deal with it and resigning to it - the ugliness should be fought, to bring an irl example, a minority is not childish for wishing for a better world for them, they should not just “deal with it”, but the majority shouldn’t close their eyes and deny what horrible things are happening to that minority. As Erwin says, humanity will never stop fighting, until it’s down to one. I’ve been phrasing my statements on the series in Eren fighting “against” the cruel world, but I’ve never completely liked them in a sense because this could come off as childish. ![]() It’s sad and it hurts, but it is for the best. You can’t live in that innocent world forever. He accepted there was always going to be ugly things in the world. In the end Holden accepted the world is cruel. The one story I’m thinking about here is Catcher in the Rye. That would feel just as out of character as the other extreme.Ģ) I would not like if the solution came off as a statement of “deal with it, dumb kids”, that would be out of character for a series that values human emotion so much.ģ) I would not like if it came off as saying “the world is cruel, nothing we can do about it.”, when one of the central statements of the story is “if you don’t fight, you can’t win.” Though, I guess it is very similar to #2. ![]() ![]() There’s a number of clarifications to be made about this, too:ġ) I would not like it if Eren and Mikasa had no reaction whatsoever. This situation, if it were to escalate could make Eren and Mikasa look extremely childish and I think they’ve grown enough where it would feel out of character for them. This is something everyone has to accept at some point in their lives, otherwise you could just be refusing to grow up. It’s painful, but sometimes the world just isn’t fair and you don’t always get what you want. This whole arc hasīeen there to show how much Eren and Mikasa have grown and learned to put their personal feelings aside when needed.Įren didn’t let his feelings get better of him and Mikasa trusted Eren and Armin. Mikasa was shown to go along with orders perfectly. Don’t think there will be any big confrontations or straight up fights,īut I do think there could be an verbal confrontation like with theįirst Levi squad back in the Female Titan arc when Eren transformed.Īnd Mikasa have grown quite a bit, especially since just in chapter 82, ![]()
